Tucson Cavalry References

In Tucson there are two good cavalry references outside of the statues of the Bugler and the Rough Rider.

One is on Park, there is cavalry officer painted on a building front of a store. Why? No idea.

Two is on the side of a buliding painted half red and white. There are fourteen horse shoes painted in various spots on it. It is next to a hot dog place and you notice it from the window.

So there are few old west buffs out there still.

B 709 vs Rough Riders

So the Desert Dragons had two diffeent heritages. Don't we all though? You have your name from your father, 8th Battalion 40th Armor would be this, and you have your mother's line, the Rough Riders would be this, just like every person does.

So what one do you identify with?

That is up to you as life is full of choices. I like both and luckily it looks like both make reference to Teddy Roosevelt so I guess we are in luck.

Felt like highlighting Thom's stuff today.

40th Armor Regiment And The Colors

So what about the colors on the 40th Armor Coat Of Arms? Well on the crest they don't have any as far as I can tell but on the shield it is a Masonic Reference.

The green background and the white T Rex mean two things. One is the regimental crest meaning of armor, but more inportantly is white is the symbol of purity. This is why the T Rex is white and not green. The Green background is a reference to the York Rite Freemason's Knight Orders known as the Green Degrees.

The red around the sword has two meanings. In masonry it is the color of war but on a sword it represents the Order Of St George and Winston Churchill was a member of that as well as the York Rite of Freemasons.

The Blue Tounge has a specifc meaning as well and that is to the Jews. In the Green Degrees there are numeorus references to the Old Testament.  In Numbers 15:38 it tells the jews they must attach a blue ribbon to their clothes.

You have to remember that Hitler rounded up the Freemasons as well so the notion that Churchill and FDR, although represented by his relative, would tolerate that is not very likely.

40th Armor Coat Of Arms

The 40th Armor Regiment Coat of Arms is in two parts. One the crest is on top and was made after World War Two because it reflects service during the war. The bottom is the shield and it was made in 1943.

The crest is an iron grate with eight openings that stands for Troop E 87th Cavalry. It was assigned to the Seventh Armor Division and broken up into four platoons and assigned as assualt gun sections to the other four recon cavalry troops.

The two chains have eleven links each. They represent the eleven companies that came out of the 40th Armored Regiment. Headquarters for the 40th Tank Battalion and 709th Tank Battalion are the loops. Companies A,B,C, D of both battalions and  Troop E 87 Recon Troop. There are two sets because that is how many battalions can be seeded from those companies under the Army Regimental system.

Th Lion represents the 40th Tank Battalion that was part of the Seventh Armor Division. This unit fought as part of the British Army on two occasions during the war and that is why the Lion.

The tree represents the 709th Tank Battalion. This unit fought at the battle of the Hurtgen Forest .

The shield represents the 40th Tank battalion in that it took the regiment's name just like a family crest. The sword represents Ascalon the name of Winston Churchill's airplane that make refrence to a medievil sword myth. The T Rex represents Teddy Roosevelt because of TR.

When they designed it in 1943 they knew it was going to the Seventh Armor Division and it is a reference to the British 7th Armoured Divison. That was really their first but they numbered it 7th. This was the unit that mentored American Armor in North Africa.

Why Churchill and Roosevelt? They were both Secretary of the Navy and Lord of the Admiralty of thier countries but more important both were cavalry officers as well.

The fact they used a Rough Riders area to seed a Reserve unit no doubt played a part in this.

314th and 111th Cavalry

The Rough Riders was started by Leonard Wood and Teddy Roosevelt to fight in the Spanish American War and went to Cuba. The 2nd Battalion was actually what became the 111th Cavalry of the New Mexico National Guard. The first and third battalions were volunteers with the majority coming from the Southwest.

The 314th was the next incarnation of this formation even though the 118th Cavalry alluded to it. There is no rule says you can not do that so that so it is like the Masons and the Knights Templar.

The 314th really was the Rough Riders and in that regard so was the 8th Battalion 40th Armor was really another incarnation that used the franchise package of the Army Regimental System.

Just food for thought.

May 1st 1970

So on May 1, 1970 Richard Nixon decides to invade Cambodia and the operations last until July 22 of that same year. So why was this such a big deal? The Kent State Riots were a direct result of this but what was the actual anger about?

Richard Nixon was elected to end the war. When he was Vice President under Eisenhower they had a very similar situation by having to end the Korean War. Eisenhower did this with in six months although we still have troops there today. The thought was that Nixon would just duplicate the formula but this was not possible as Korea is a penisula and Vietnam is not.

So this I will examine more in the future as well.
