Berlin Brigade?

Since 6th Battlion 40th Armor served in West Berlin it was allowed the Army of the Occupation Medal until 1990 unlike the rest of Germany that stopped issuing it in the 1960s.

Ronald Burgess, the head of the DIA, wears an Army of the Occupation Medal and is a 1974 graduate of the Armor Officers Course. So did he serve in the 40th Armor before going the intelligence route?
